About Xishuangbanna
Xishuangbanna, Sipsongpanna to the Dai, straddles the Mekong at its capital, Jinghong, in Yunnan's tropical far south between Laos and Myanmar. The Dai share Theravada Buddhism and close kinship with the Thai and Lao, and their New Year, the April Water-Splashing Festival, is the high point of the year. Rainforest survives among the rubber plantations at places such as the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden and Wild Elephant Valley, and the Six Great Tea Mountains of Mengla grow some of the most prized pu'er.
