About Jiujiang

Jiujiang is a Yangtze port where Poyang Lake drains into the river, and above it rises Mount Lushan, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996, with its mists, waterfalls, the White Deer Grotto Academy and the hill town of Guling, begun in the 1890s as a missionary summer resort. In town, the Pipa Pavilion recalls Bai Juyi's Lute Song, written in exile here; at Hukou, Shizhongshan is the cliff whose bell-like echoes Su Shi investigated in an essay.
