About Yunju Mountain and Zhenru Temple
A Buddhist mountain in western Yongxiu, one of the three sections of the Lushan Xihai 5A scenic area, rising to about 970 m, with cool summers and wooded valleys that hold waterfalls, among them a 120 m drop at Five Dragon Pool. At its centre is Zhenru Chan Temple, founded in the early 9th century in the Tang dynasty and the ancestral temple of the Caodong school of Chan Buddhism, with halls rebuilt from 1953. A short walk east of the temple, the pagoda court holds memorial pagodas of Chan masters from the Tang to the Yuan dynasties, which form the nationally listed Zhenru Temple Pagoda Forest.
