About Great Mosque of Hohhot

The Great Mosque of Hohhot, founded in 1693 by Hui Muslims, is regarded as the oldest and largest mosque in Inner Mongolia and is an active place of worship. Its black-brick halls follow traditional Chinese building styles with Islamic decoration around two courtyards, with a prayer hall, two lecture halls, a washing room and a moon-viewing tower added in 1939. The mosque holds a handwritten Arabic Quran in 30 volumes and seven stone tablets from the Qing dynasty and later.
