About Dazhao Temple
Dazhao is the oldest Gelug (Yellow Hat) temple in Hohhot, begun in 1579 by the Tümed Mongol leader Altan Khan in his newly founded city of Guihua. This Tibetan Buddhist monastery is also called the Silver Buddha Temple after its silver statue of Sakyamuni, which the Third Dalai Lama consecrated during his visit in 1586. The temple has a Chinese-style layout with a main hall combining Chinese and Tibetan styles, and holds Buddhist festivals through the year.
