About Hohhot

Hohhot, whose Mongolian name Köke Qota means 'Blue City', grew up around Dazhao Temple, a Gelug monastery begun in the 16th century by the Tümed Mongol leader Altan Khan. Xilitu Zhao and the Great Mosque of Hohhot, founded in 1693 by Hui Muslims, stand in the same old town, and the Inner Mongolia Museum shows fossils and the region's history. Zhaojun Tomb, the traditional grave of a Han-dynasty woman married to a Xiongnu ruler, is a 33 m mound beside the Dahei River.
