About Yipu Garden
A compact house and garden on Dongguan Street, built in 1910 for the banker Li Hesheng, with a five-courtyard residence on the west and the garden on the east, separated by a fire lane. Unusually for Yangzhou, the garden lies beside rather than behind the house: rockwork is built against the boundary wall, with a five-sided half-pavilion over a pool, and a flower hall leads to a rear garden enclosed by a two-level corridor and rockwork. The house was restored in 2007–08.
