About Wu Daotai Mansion (Wu Family Residence)

A large mansion begun in 1888 for Wu Yinsun, a Qing official who had served as circuit intendant at Ningbo, and laid out after the intendant's office there. Its surviving buildings include a Western-style house and the Cehai Lou library, modelled on Ningbo's Tianyi Pavilion, which once held some 200,000 volumes; the family garden and ancestral hall have gone. After 1949 the compound was used by a hospital, and part of it is shown to visitors as the Wu Daotai Mansion.
