About Race Course Fire Memorial
Erected in 1922, this memorial remembers the more than 600 people of many nationalities who died in the fire at the Happy Valley racecourse on 26 February 1918. It rises in three terraces: two pavilions at the top, a central memorial arch below them and a pair of pagodas at the bottom, combining Western classical and traditional Chinese elements. It is the only memorial in Hong Kong dedicated to the victims of that fire.
