Why go to Universal Beijing Resort
Opened in September 2021 in Tongzhou District, east of central Beijing, Universal Beijing Resort combines the Universal Studios Beijing theme park with the Universal CityWalk dining and shopping street and two hotels. The park's seven themed lands include the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Minion Land and Transformers: Metrobase; plan a full day and finish with dinner on CityWalk.
The story
Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, based on the DreamWorks films, is built completely indoors and recreates the Jade Palace, the Panda Village and the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom in a setting Universal calls 'Legendary China'.
What to see at Universal Beijing Resort
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter 哈利·波特的魔法世界: The park's Harry Potter land, based on the films.
- Jurassic World Isla Nublar 侏罗纪世界努布拉岛: A dinosaur-themed land modelled on the setting of the Jurassic World films.
- Transformers: Metrobase 变形金刚基地: A robot-themed land based on the Transformers films.
- Kung Fu Panda: Land of Awesomeness 功夫熊猫盖世之地: The indoor land based on the DreamWorks films, which recreates the Jade Palace and the Panda Village.
- Minion Land 小黄人乐园: A colourful land themed on the Minions from the Despicable Me films.
- Universal CityWalk 北京环球城市大道: The dining and shopping street between the Metro station and the park gate, with restaurants, shops and a cinema.
How to visit Universal Beijing Resort
The Metro station opens onto CityWalk, which you walk through to reach the park's gate. Plan one full day for the park's seven lands, arriving at opening time, and keep CityWalk for dinner. If you only have half a day, pick one or two lands; the evening is a good time for a meal and a walk through CityWalk.
How to get to Universal Beijing Resort
Take Metro Line 7, or the Batong Line, which runs through from Line 1, to Universal Resort, then walk about seven minutes from Exit B, C or D to CityWalk; a taxi from central Beijing takes about an hour, depending on traffic.
Where to stay
Two themed hotels sit on the resort grounds, which makes an early start easy. Central Beijing is about an hour away by taxi, depending on traffic.
What to eat
- Tangshaobing 糖火烧: A sweet baked flatbread from Tongzhou's old town, the first of its 'three treasures'.
- Shao nianyu 烧鲇鱼: Catfish cut into pieces, fried and braised, a canal-side dish and another of Tongzhou's 'three treasures'.
- Fermented tofu 酱豆腐: Tofu blocks that ferment in jars during the months-long canal voyage from Shaoxing, the third of Tongzhou's 'three treasures'.
