About Grand Canal Scenic Area, Tongzhou

Tongzhou marks the northern end of the Grand Canal, and this scenic area follows about 12 km of the North Canal from the confluence of five rivers south to Gantang Bridge, with parks along both banks. At its northern end stand the 'three temples and a pagoda': a Confucian temple, the Daoist Ziqing Palace and the Buddhist Yousheng Temple, grouped around the 56-metre, 13-storey Randeng Pagoda that once told boatmen they were nearing Tongzhou. Further south are Canal Park and the large Grand Canal Forest Park, and sightseeing boats run on the canal.
