About Pingjiang Road Historic District
A historic quarter in the north-east of Suzhou's old city, laid out along Pingjiang Road and the Pingjiang canal, which have run side by side for some 800 years and already appear on the city map of 1229. Lanes of whitewashed houses, humped stone bridges and side canals branch off the main street, which is lined with bookshops, teahouses and small venues for Suzhou storytelling and ballad singing. The district is part of the Grand Canal World Heritage Site and holds the Couple's Retreat Garden, the Kunqu Opera Museum in the Quanjin Guild Hall and the Pan family mansion.
How to get to Pingjiang Road Historic District
In the north-east of Suzhou's old city between Ganjiang Road and Baita East Road, a short walk from the Humble Administrator's Garden and the Suzhou Museum.
