About Memorial Stone of Shing Mun Reservoir

A memorial stone of 1937 marking the completion of Shing Mun Reservoir, which took 14 years to build from 1923 and was the largest reservoir of the pre-war period supplying water to both sides of Victoria Harbour. The Antiquities and Monuments Office notes that it and the stone at Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir are the only two such stones for the largest pre-war reservoirs in the New Territories and on Hong Kong Island. It stands by the main dam in Shing Mun Country Park, where sections of the MacLehose and Wilson trails meet the reservoir.
