About Deji Gate Site

The excavated foundations of Deji Gate, the southern gate of Song–Yuan Quanzhou through which goods passed to and from the riverside port, lie open beside Tianhou Temple. First built in 1230 and destroyed by fire in 1948, the site was dug in 2000 and shows city-wall footings from the Song to the Qing, inner and outer moats, a stone bridge and the walls of the barbican. It is one of the components of the Quanzhou World Heritage site.
