About Southern Han Mausoleums Museum
The tombs of two rulers of the Southern Han, a tenth-century kingdom based in Guangzhou, were found in 2003 while the Higher Education Mega Center was being built on Xiaoguwei Island: the Kangling of Liu Yan, buried in 942, and the Deling attributed to Liu Yin. A site museum opened beside them in 2019, with permanent galleries on Guangzhou's archaeology and on Southern Han history and culture. Finds include the complete text of an imperial funerary eulogy carved in stone, the earliest of its kind yet excavated, and large groups of tenth-century ceramics.
