About Qiqiaoweng Bridge
A seven-arched Ming stone bridge over the Qinhuai River south-east of the old city, completed in 1440 and first called Shangfang Bridge after the nearby gate of the Ming outer wall. About 90 m long and 13 m wide, it is the largest old bridge surviving in Nanjing; carved dragon heads line the arches and scaly guardian beasts with human faces rear up from the cutwaters to mark flood levels. Restored in 2008–09, when missing carvings were replaced, it still carries traffic and stands at the western end of Qiqiaoweng Wetland Park along the river.
