About Ming Palace Ruins

The ruins of the early Ming imperial palace, the model for Beijing's Forbidden City, which decayed after the court moved to Beijing in the 1420s and was later cut in two by an airfield and by Zhongshan East Road in the 1920s. South of the road, Wumen Park keeps the stone base of the Meridian Gate with its five archways, the inner Five Dragon Bridges and the site of the Fengtian Gate; north of it, the Ming Palace Ruins Park shows the bases and stone column plinths of the three great halls. The Donghua Gate and Xi'an Gate survive as separate gate ruins nearby.
