About CCTV Nanhai Studio

A film and television base of China Media Group (CCTV) in Shishan, Nanhai, begun in 1996 with street sets of old Hong Kong and Macau built for dramas about the two cities. Its largest set, built in 1997–98 for a series on the Taiping Rebellion, recreates the Taiping court palaces of Nanjing behind a gate tower 300 m wide, beside a moated quarter of Jiangnan-style streets, mansions and teahouses. Visitors walk through the replica sets, which are still used for filming and broadcasts.
