About Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

Built in 1888–94 with funds from Chen clans across Guangdong's 72 counties, this combined ancestral hall and academy gave lodging to clan members sitting the imperial examinations in Guangzhou. Its symmetrical complex of halls and courtyards is famous for the density of its decoration, with carvings in wood, stone and brick, ceramic roof ridges, plaster mouldings and cast ironwork. It now houses the Guangdong Folk Art Museum.
