About Xianxian Mosque and Tomb of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas

Chinese Muslim tradition holds that this walled cemetery contains the tomb of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, a companion of the Prophet said to have come to China to spread Islam in the seventh century, and it has long been a place of pilgrimage. His domed tomb chamber, known for its echo, stands among the graves of missionaries and foreign pilgrims, among them a Korean of the 14th century and a Turk of the 18th, with old steles, arches and pavilions around them. A large prayer hall added on the west side in 2010 has made it Guangzhou's largest mosque.
