About St. Lawrence's Church

A neoclassical church (Igreja de São Lourenço) first built by the Jesuits before 1560 and rebuilt in 1846 to a design by the Macanese architect Tomás D'Aquino. Before Praia Grande Bay was reclaimed it looked straight over the water, and sailors' families waited on its steps for ships to return, hence the Chinese name Feng Shun Tang, Hall of the Soothing Winds. Inside is a rare local set of stained-glass windows with biblical scenes.
