About Rua da Felicidade and Beco da Felicidade

A short lane of two-storey Chinese shophouses with grey walls and sloping roofs, laid out on reclaimed marshland between 1862 and 1874 by wealthy Fujian merchants. It was once Macau's red-lantern district of brothels and opium dens, and after prostitution was banned it became a busy dining and trading street. Beco da Felicidade runs off it, and shops and restaurants now fill the ground floors.
