About Luís de Camões Garden and Old Protestant Cemetery
A hillside public garden (Jardim de Luís de Camões) with benches shaded by banyan trees, a grotto sheltering a bronze bust of the Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, and a wooded hill where local people play Chinese chess, exercise and walk caged birds. Next to it lies the Old Protestant Cemetery, laid out in 1821, with the Morrison Chapel named after Robert Morrison, the first Protestant missionary in China. Graves include Morrison's and that of the British painter George Chinnery, alongside East India Company officials and other foreign residents.
