About Yunnan Military Academy

The former campus of a military academy founded in Kunming in 1909, in the last years of the Qing dynasty, which trained more than 9,000 officers before it closed in 1935; its graduates included Zhu De and Ye Jianying as well as cadets from Korea and Vietnam. The surviving main building is a two-storey block built round a large courtyard, each side about 120 metres long. It houses the Yunnan Military Academy History Museum, opened in 2009, with exhibitions on the academy and on the Chinese Expeditionary Force of the Second World War.
