About Anti-Japanese War Victory Memorial Hall, Kunming

A palace-style hall blending Chinese and Western elements, completed in January 1946 on the site of the Qing Yunnan–Guizhou governor's office to mark victory in the war against Japan; from 1950 it was called the People's Victory Hall. Its central hall is planned in the shape of a warplane, and with the curved buildings around it the layout evokes a raised cup, a reference to the wartime 'Hump' airlift. A 27-metre monument to the people's heroes, completed in 1995, stands at the south end, with a memorial exhibition room in the space beneath its base.
