About Shizhaishan Archaeological Site Park

Shizhaishan, a low hill near the south-eastern shore of Dian Lake, was the burial ground of the rulers of the ancient Dian kingdom; excavations from the 1950s onwards yielded the 'Seal of the King of Dian' and bronze cowrie containers topped with scenes of sacrifice and oath-taking. The nearby Hebosuo site, thought to have been the kingdom's main settlement and later the seat of the Han commandery of Yizhou, has yielded more than 2,000 Han-dynasty official seal impressions and tens of thousands of bamboo and wooden slips. An archaeological park covering both began trial opening in May 2026, centred on an exhibition hall of finds at the Shizhaishan excavation station.
