About Nanyue King Museum (Mausoleum of the Nanyue King)

The museum is built over the stone tomb of Zhao Mo, second king of Nanyue, who ruled from Guangzhou in the second century BC; it was found in 1983 when a hill was cut down for building work, and visitors can go down into the burial chambers. Its galleries show the finds, among them the king's jade burial suit sewn with silk thread and his gold seal, together with bronzes, jades and a large donated collection of ceramic pillows from the Tang to the Yuan. A second exhibition area, the Nanyue Palace site on Zhongshan 4th Road, displays the excavated palace garden with its stone pool and winding stone watercourse, along with remains of later palaces and government offices.
