About Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Built in 1929–31 with funds raised from local and overseas Chinese in memory of Sun Yat-sen, this octagonal hall by the architect Lü Yanzhi stands at the foot of Yuexiu Hill on the old city's north–south axis. Its blue-tiled roof covers a 71-metre auditorium without internal pillars, still used for concerts and meetings, and the Japanese surrender in Guangdong was signed here in 1945. A bronze statue of Sun stands in front, and the gardens include a kapok tree about 300 years old.
