About Sacred Heart Cathedral
Built between 1863 and 1888 by the Paris Foreign Missions Society on the site of the former Liangguang viceroy's office, the cathedral is a Gothic Revival church made entirely of granite, which is why locals call it the 'Stone House'. Its twin-spired façade was modelled on the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde in Paris, and the stone was quarried in Kowloon and shipped up the Pearl River. It is the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Guangzhou and holds regular Masses.
