Beijing Road has been a main street of central Guangzhou for centuries: the city's double gate tower stood here from 1244, and in the Qing the street was known for bookshops, antiques and its flower market. Fully pedestrianised since 2002, it is lined with department stores, bookshops and long-established Cantonese restaurants.
