About Church of the Saviour (Beitang)
Beijing's Catholic cathedral, founded in 1703 on land given by the Kangxi Emperor near the palace and moved here in 1887 when the Guangxu court wanted the old site, with its grey-stone Gothic façade completed in 1890. The church was besieged during the Boxer uprising of 1900, and after restoration in 2018 it is again the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Beijing.
