Xinyu 新余Xīnyú
A steel town with a fairy-tale lake and summer cloth woven by hand from ramie

About Xinyu
Xinyu is an industrial city built around steel, but its draw is gentler. Fairy Lake, a reservoir of about 50 square kilometres with nearly a hundred islands, was renamed in 1994 after the feathered maiden of the Jin-dynasty Soushen ji, and Hongyang Cave lies near Fenyi, long known as the home of xiabu, a summer cloth woven by hand from ramie. The painter Fu Baoshi was born in Xinyu.
