About Fairy Lake, Xinyu

Fairy Lake is the Jiangkou reservoir on the Yuan river, a large artificial lake of about 50 km² south-west of Xinyu, dotted with nearly a hundred wooded islands. It was renamed in 1994 after a legend, recorded in the Jin-dynasty Soushen ji, of feathered fairy maidens who came down to earth, and is now run as a national tourist resort built around that legend and the Qixi (Chinese Valentine's Day) festival. Visitors take boats among the islands, visit the three islands rebuilt in 2024 with staged shows, and can drive the 34 km lakeside road.
