About Shijian Hall
A Qing merchant compound in Zhenze old town, the ancestral property of the town's Xu family, which combined trade and family life on one site. From the canal it runs back through a riverside rice warehouse and a row of shops, across Baota Street itself, which passes through the compound, to the main hall and two-storey family quarters. A tiny garden of galleries, rockery and a half-pavilion lies on its east side.
How to get to Shijian Hall
On Baota Street in Zhenze old town, in the far south-west of Wujiang district, about an hour by road south of central Suzhou.
