About Zhenze Ancient Town & Ciyun Temple Pagoda

A former silk town in the south-west of Wujiang on the Zhejiang border, a national historic and cultural town whose old quarter centres on Baota Street. Its landmark is the pagoda of Ciyun Temple on that street, a six-sided, five-storey brick-and-timber tower, mostly Ming in date, which alone survived when the temple was burnt in the wars of the 1850s; the temple has since been partly restored. Nearby is Shijian Hall, a merchant family's compound that combines a rice warehouse on the water, shops, living quarters and a small garden.
