About Anji Bridge (Zhaozhou Bridge)
A single-span stone arch bridge over the Xiao River at Zhao County, usually dated to about 605 in the Sui dynasty and credited to the craftsman Li Chun. Its shallow arch has two small arches set into each shoulder, and it is generally described as the world's oldest stone bridge of this open-spandrel type; the parapets are carved with dragons and animal masks. The bridge was heavily rebuilt in 1952–56, which changed its appearance, and it now stands in a park that includes an exhibition on ancient bridges.
