About Zhaoqing City Wall

The brick city wall of the old town of Zhaoqing, built in 1113 when the earth ramparts of the newly promoted prefecture were enlarged and faced with brick, and repaired many times under the Ming and Qing. Most of the circuit survives, although the gate towers were pulled down and much of the wall lowered in the 1920s; the north-west stretch has been restored with battlements and a paved walk on top, crowned by the rebuilt Piyun Tower.
