About Dajingmen
A gate in the Great Wall on the northern edge of Zhangjiakou, built in 1644, through which the road to Mongolia once passed; the trade market that grew up outside it made Zhangjiakou a major caravan town. The gateway is about 12 m high and carries a 1927 inscription reading 'Magnificent Rivers and Mountains', with a stretch of wall running up the hills to the west. It is often counted with Shanhaiguan, Jiayuguan and Juyongguan as one of the Great Wall's four great passes.
