About Tsaparang (Guge Kingdom Ruins)
The ruined capital of the Guge kingdom, which ruled this part of western Tibet from the 10th century until it fell in the 1630s, built up an earth hill above the Langqên Zangbo (Sutlej) valley. More than 300 rooms, over 300 caves, stupas, tunnels and the remains of palaces climb about 175 m from base to summit, and the White Temple, Red Temple and three other halls keep murals and sculpture that the Dunhuang Academy restored in 2012–13. The eroded earth-forest landscape around it is as striking as the ruins.
