About Guyaju Caves
A group of 117 cave dwellings with some 350 rooms cut into the cliffs of a side valley west of Yanqing, found in 1984 and still of uncertain age and origin; the most common view links them to the Xi people of the Tang to Five Dynasties period. Stone steps lead up to rooms carved with beds, stoves, flues, window openings and lamp niches, cut at several levels so that parts of the cliff look like a many-storeyed building.
