About Meidaizhao Monastery
Meidaizhao is a walled monastery in Tumed Right Banner that began as a fortified town built by the Tumed Mongol leader Altan Khan in the 16th century and later became a Gelug-school Tibetan Buddhist temple. Earth walls faced with stone, about 5 metres high, enclose halls of the Ming period, and the murals, about 1,650 square metres in all, include scenes from the Buddha's life and a group of Mongol donor figures. It suits visitors interested in Mongol history and Buddhist art.
