About Ruins of Tianfei Palace (Dazhigu Mazu Temple)
The site of a temple to the sea goddess Mazu founded in the Yuan dynasty beside the Hai River, the oldest temple site in Tianjin's urban area and the 'East Temple' to the Tianhou Palace's 'West Temple'. The temple was burned in 1900, abandoned in the 1950s and its hall demolished in the 1970s. Excavations from 1997 uncovered the foundations of a Ming–Qing hall about 14 m wide and Yuan-dynasty foundations, which are shown in the site museum that opened in 2002.
