About Hoangho Paiho Museum (Beijiang Museum)

Founded in 1914 by the French Jesuit naturalist Émile Licent and housed in purpose-built premises from the 1920s, the Hoangho Paiho Museum is the forerunner of Tianjin Natural History Museum, and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin worked there. Xinhua describes it as the only early Chinese museum whose site, buildings, collections and display cases all survive in their original form, with more than 200,000 items, from animal, plant, fossil and rock specimens to historical and folk relics.
