About Former Tianjin College of Industry and Commerce Main Building

The main building of the former Tianjin College of Industry and Commerce was built by French Jesuits in the 1920s to a design by the French firm Yonghe, and is a three-storey brick building with a mansard roof, rusticated stonework and large clock faces on its front and back gables. Its west wing holds a small chapel, and the entrance hall has portraits of Matteo Ricci and Ferdinand Verbiest and a large world map by Verbiest. The site passed to a foreign-languages institute in 1970, now Tianjin Foreign Studies University, and the building is still the university's main building.
