About Chunyang Palace, Taiyuan

A Taoist temple dedicated to Lü Dongbin (Chunyang), called the largest and best preserved in Taiyuan by the city government, founded in the late Song or early Yuan and greatly enlarged in 1597 by the Princes of Jin. Five courtyards climb from a wooden pailou and the Daode Gate to the Ming Lüzu Hall and a Jiugong Bagua courtyard laid out on the eight-trigrams plan, with caves and pavilions in the upper courtyards. It now houses the Shanxi Ancient Architecture Museum, whose collection includes steles, statues, painted sculpture and murals.
