About Tai O Fishing Village

Tai O is a fishing village on the western side of Lantau Island, home to the Tanka boat people, where pang uk, houses on stilts, stand over the tidal creek and are linked by wooden bridges and boardwalks. Shops sell dried seafood and shrimp paste, and waterfront cafés and restaurants serve local snacks. A promenade walk of about 15 minutes along the shore passes the ferry pier, mangroves and Hung Shing Temple and ends at the old pier beside the former police station, now the Tai O Heritage Hotel.
