About Jiumenkou Great Wall
Jiumenkou is a stretch of Ming Great Wall that crosses a seasonal river on a stone gateway-bridge about 110 m long and 10 m high, with nine arched openings that carried heavy double wooden doors, shut at low water and opened to let floods through. The river bed is paved with square stone slabs, which gave the pass its old name Yipianshi ('One Slab of Stone'), and watchtowers and wall run up the hills on either side as part of the eastern end of the Ming Jizhen defences. The site straddles the Liaoning–Hebei border; the Liaoning side lies in Suizhong County.
