About Shenbicheng Fortress
The ruins of a Southern Song mountain fortress on a cliff-bound promontory above the Yangtze, built in 1243 when Luzhou's government moved here to resist the Mongols. It held out until 1277, changing hands five times along the way. The east and west gates and much of the wall survive, along with traces of the drill ground, beacon tower and offices and several rock inscriptions recalling the siege.
