About Mausoleum of Yu the Great
The traditional burial place of Yu the Great, the legendary tamer of floods and founder of the Xia dynasty, at the foot of Kuaiji Mountain south-east of Shaoxing. The site has three parts: the tomb, marked by a stele pavilion inscribed 'Da Yu Ling' beside Yu Pool; the Yu Temple, first built in the early Liang dynasty and laid out as a palace-style complex; and the sacrificial hall, rebuilt in 2007–08. The temple grounds also hold the Goulou stele with its puzzling tadpole-like script and the Bianshi, a conical stone with a hole through it.
