About Longxing Temple Site, Qingzhou
Longxing Temple was a Buddhist temple in Qingzhou, founded in the Northern and Southern Dynasties period and later lost. In 1996 a pit near its hall base, found under a school sports field, yielded hundreds of stone Buddhist statues from the Northern Wei to the Northern Song, many still with paint and gilding. The find spot is now partly an open park, while the statues are the star exhibits of the Qingzhou Museum, so come here for the context and go to the museum for the sculpture.
